Introduction to English
English from Toute Petite Section
Siguiendo las recomendaciones del Ministerio de la Educación Nacional francés, y con el fin de completar la enseñanza en francés y español, Pomme d'Api incorpora una iniciación al inglés desde la Toute Petite Section.
Pupils receive one hour of English each week, spread over several days. Throughout their time at Pomme d'Api, this introduction is taught by the same qualified English teacher, who is the school’s reference teacher for this language.

Learning languages from an early age
A 2019 study entitled “Propositions pour une meilleure maîtrise des langues vivantes étrangères, oser dire le nouveau monde” highlights the importance of early foreign-language learning. Young children’s perceptual abilities allow them to become familiar with the sounds of different languages from preschool.
The study notes that, beyond their linguistic dimension, foreign languages introduce pupils to cultural diversity and lay the foundations for respectful citizenship, essential for life in society.
Learning through play
The introduction to languages supports two curriculum areas: “Mobiliser le langage dans toutes ses dimensions” (developing language in all its dimensions) and “Explorer le monde” (exploring the world). Through playful activities and reflection on language, such as songs and word games, it engages pupils’ sensitivity, motor skills and cognitive abilities, also contributing to the other three curriculum areas. This approach supports oral language development and strengthens French, essential goals of the école maternelle.
